OMMAX develops a Digital Readiness Index for German Mittelstand
OMMAX – Digital Solutions has conducted a study concerning the Digital Readiness of 104 mid-sized enterprises throughout Germany in cooperation with Trinity College Dublin. This Digital Readiness Index has been developed by combining the results of secondary and primary data analysis.
The aim of the project was to understand and to structure the digital value creation in B2B companies in the German Mittelstand sector based on a consulting framework. The investigation of the current state of research provided a theoretical basis for the consulting framework, which was then supplemented by the insights of an online survey.
Some of the most important outcomes are the following:
- Overall 43 percent of the companies in the dataset could be identified as “Digital Beginners”, 46 percent as “Digital Evolvers” and 11 percent as “Digital Champions”
- One of the most relevant value driver dimensions for digital value creation in “Digital Beginner” and “Digital Evolver” companies is in the area of data & analytics
- In comparison, one of the most relevant value driver dimensions for digital value creation in “Digital Champion” companies is their digital business model
“The study highlights again that there is still a long way to go for the German Mittelstand when it comes to digital. We need to transform the backbone of the German industry to remain competitive, maintain the leading market position of our hidden champions and help them to become Digital Champions in their industry.”, said OMMAX CEO Toni Stork.
About the research procedure
In addition to the development of the digital readiness study, an OMMAX Digital Readiness Framework was evolved and established based on the experience of more than 500 projects. Within this framework, an overall score is evaluated based on different dimensions such as e.g. digital strategy, data & analytics and digital business models. By assessing the overall digital score, companies can understand their digital value and potentials as well as the measures that are required to become a digital champion.
